Port of Oakland Experiences Busiest Month for Container Handling in 10 Years

The Port of Oakland announced in August that July marked the busiest month for container movement in the last 10 years. Export volume increased for the sixth time in seven months, and container volume jumped 8.8 percent compared to July 2015, according to port officials. In total, the port handled 223,619 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), the most it has handled since August 2006 when they reported 227,996 TEUs moved. “These numbers are encouraging and with holiday shipments set to commence, this could be the start of something good,” Port of Oakland Maritime Director John Driscoll said in a statement.
