Planning Begins for Wharf Repairs at the Port of Redwood City

The Port of Redwood City will begin a $6.6 million improvement project to Wharves 3 and 4 in 2017. Project priority will be given to fender repairs, protecting vessels and dock structures from damage when maneuvering at berth. The system of new fenders will extend the useful life of the wharves an additional 30 years. Additionally, the port intends to install new steel pile mooring dolphins at Wharf 3 and new mooring panels at Wharf 4. When completed, Wharves 3 and 4 will be able to dock dry bulk ships categorically sized as “Panamax,” the largest ships currently able to pass through the Panama Canal.
