Former Naval Complex Transferred to the City of Long Beach to Support the Port’s Cargo Operations

On Tuesday, August 30th, representatives from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) and California Environmental Protection Agency, along with City of Long Beach and Port of Long Beach officials celebrated the transfer of 125 acres of the former Naval Complex to the city’s Harbor Department. The transferred land is located on the Pier T container terminal, one of the Port’s busiest terminals capable of accommodating megaships and handling billions in trade. “This property transfer is a symbol of the successful partnership between the Navy, MARAD and the City of Long Beach that turned the closure of a major Navy facility into a thriving commercial terminal,” said Port of Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Tracy Egoscue.
